The importance of sound
We often overlook the importance of sound when it comes to our overall wellbeing. Have you ever wondered if sound could be used as a powerful healing tool? Sound connects us with the present moment, allowing us to dive deeper within, finding our inner peace. It is known that everything has a vibrational frequency, including ourselves. Sound frequencies impact how we feel. The law of nature states that everything has a vibration. Sounds are made up of vibrations which affect the world around.
Background & History
Sound Healing is one of the oldest forms of healing known to man and used by many cultures worldwide. Healing with sound (“music”) dates back as far as ancient Greece. In Ancient Greece music was used as therapy. The actual word ‘therapy’ comes from the Greek therapia, meaning ‘to serve or help medically’. Music was also used to still and lift the spirit. The ancient cultures of Tibet, China, India, Latin America and Africa also used the sound in ceremonies, as a healing tool. Throughout history, we have seen music and sound used in a plethora of ways. In the last decades, sound healing has become increasingly popular all over the world and is now considered to be one of the top wellness practices. There are several sound healing techniques and instruments that can be used, such as Tibetan singing bowls, crystal bowls, gongs and more.
What is Sound Healing Therapy
Sound healing is an ancient practice that has been used for centuries to promote healing in the body, mind, spirit and soul.
A sound healing session, often known as a sound bath, involves lying down on the floor or a yoga mat, sometimes cuddling up with a warm blanket and simply listening as a practitioner plays various instruments while you “bathe” in the soothing sounds and vibrations. Sound is powerful; it stirs our emotions and heals our wounds. The use of bowls and gongs in restorative practices deeply impacts our nervous system, helping our body and mind to relax and rejuvenate. The sound waves evoke a deeply meditative state in the brain, activating the body’s self-healing system.
